Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, also known as butyl carbitol, is a common industrial chemical. Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether is a slow-evaporating, hydrophilic glycol ether with excellent coalescing and coupling power.

Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether can be considered a slower-evaporating analog of Butyl cellosolve glycol ether. It can be used in combination with Butyl cellosolve glycol ether to lower the evaporation rate and increase the hydrophobicity of the solvent package.

1. Used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, varnish, printing ink, oil, resin, etc. and an intermediate for synthetic plastics.

 

2. Mainly used as solvents for paints, dyes, resins, etc. It is also used as intermediates of plasticizers and diluents of hydraulic brake fluids, and is also used to produce piperonyl butoxy compounds. The oral LD50 is 6560mg/kg for rats.
 

3. Diethylene glycol butyl ether (112-34-5) is mainly used as a solvent for paints, printing inks, stamp ink, oils, resins, etc. It can also be used as a metal detergent, paint stripper, lubricant stripper, automobile engine detergent, dry-cleaning solvent, epoxy resin solvent, drug extraction agent; it is used as a stabilizer for latex paints, an evaporation inhibitor for aircraft paints, and an improver of high temperature baking enamels in the surface processing. It is also used as stabilizer for emulsion paint, evaporation inhibitor for aircraft paint, surface processing improvement agent for high temperature baking enamel paint, etc.
